Tonight is Movie Night, and our feature film is a fantastic movie based on a 2012 Australian war fictional novel by M. L. Stedman, her debut book.  The film adaptation stars Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender.

It is a story about Australian Tom Sherbourne, who returns home after fighting in World War I.  He and his wife Isabel move to an isolated lighthouse, where they remain for several years.  Their happiness is marred only by their inability to have a family, so when a rowboat with a dead man and infant girl mysteriously washes ashore, Isabel believes their prayers have been answered.   They save the child’s life, nurture her, and informally “adopt” her.

When the child is two years old, the family returns to the mainland for her christening. There they discover that the child has surviving family who are devastated by her loss.

As a man of principle, Tom is torn between reporting the lost child and pleasing the woman he loves.  Their differences in opinions on the ethical course of action drives the emotional tension that ensues.

You will be deeply touched by this movie and the raw emotions it portrays.  The chemistry of the 2 lead actors is undeniable.
